The history of film is as poetic and filled with drama as any story that has ever been shown on the big screen. When we were approached to help on the new documentary that is produced by the Magic Factory department of Multichoice in South Africa, there was no other choice than to be part of it. Not a lot of people know what a big part the African Film industry played in shaping cinema as we know it today, and this documentary covered everything. From the french influences of North Africa, the unique identity that central Africa brought the world, and the new world take of the Southern parts of Africa, there was a whole kaleidoscope of amazing cinematic history to cover. The producers asked us to put a graphic package together that would cover the opening sequences and all other graphical elements in the films. This extended to the styling of the sets of the interviews, not only in South Africa but also in the remote locations – including Senegal. With little infrastructure, the solutions for these sets weren’t easy to complete, but with the never-say-quit attitude of our ECD Nicci Hattingh, the sets were a roaring success.
